Update: Man, 23, critical after stabbing near UC Berkeley
Officers described crowds of 60-100 people and said about 20 had witnessed the event, according to early reports.

Berkeley police responded to a chaotic scene Tuesday night on Durant Avenue, finding a stabbing victim and detaining two suspects as a large crowd looked on, according to preliminary reports.
Dispatchers initially advised officers that a stabbing had been reported outside The Tap Haus at 2518 Durant Ave. at about 11:40 p.m., according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.
Later updates also referenced nearby Jaguar Karaoke at 2516 Durant Ave.
"I got people running everywhere," an arriving officer advised.

Police quickly detained two suspects, one after a brief foot chase, BPD said.
Members of the crowd applied pressure to the victim's wounds as first responders got to the scene and worked to determine what had happened.
According to early reports, the victim was stabbed several times, including once in the shoulder, but was conscious and talking at the scene.
Responding officers applied a tourniquet, according to radio dispatches, and the Berkeley Fire Department took the stabbing victim to Highland Hospital.

UC Berkeley sent out a WarnMe notice at about 12:30 a.m. asking people to avoid the area due to police activity.
Durant Avenue, a block south of UC Berkeley in the Southside neighborhood, is full of restaurants and establishments geared toward students and others seeking late-night entertainment.
No information was immediately available about the suspects or whether anyone involved was affiliated with UC Berkeley.

Update, 11:15 a.m. Police identified the victim as a 23-year-old man who is now in critical condition. No other details have been released.
