Berkeley police responded to a chaotic scene Tuesday night on Durant Avenue, finding a stabbing victim and detaining two suspects as a large crowd looked on, according to preliminary reports.

Officers described crowds of 60-100 people and said about 20 had witnessed the event, according to early reports.

Also: A man who threatened to shoot Berkeley police during a domestic violence investigation earlier this month has now been charged with 17 felonies, according to police and court papers.

Police shot the man during a standoff at his apartment building April 13.

That day, Ricardo Ruiz said he would shoot "indiscriminately" and use lethal force, BPD wrote.

Ruiz, who recently recorded himself "trolling" Berkeley protests, has been under police guard in the hospital since the shooting. He was booked into jail Tuesday and his name became public.
