The latest Walk Bike Berkeley email blast is chock-full of upcoming bike events in town. Here are a few of them.
Saturday, April 19: East Bay Kidical Mass spring ride
The Kidical Mass "Spring Roll" begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Cedar Rose Park (1300 Rose St.) in North Berkeley and ends in the Sports Basement parking lot at 2727 Milvia St., "where riders will be able to enjoy good company, waffles, churros, shaved ice and more!"
This large group ride is for "kids of all ages, family members, and supporters. We choose an easy route that anyone can ride, and ride as a pack for safety and fun. Our rides end with treats of some kind and time to hang out. While everyone rides at their own risk, we have guides to help keep the group together and block traffic at intersections."
Rides are free and everyone is welcome.
"The rides have an easy pace and are 'no drop' rides, meaning no one will be left behind," organizers say. Sign up online.

Also Saturday: Berkeley Ninth Street pop-up bikeway
Also on Saturday, Bike East Bay is shutting down a block of Ninth Street between Dwight Way and Channing Way in West Berkeley "to install a series of traffic calming and bikeway features, then let people ride through and let us know what they think!"
Bike East Bay says the event will feature at least three elements: a two-way protected cycletrack segment; a traffic-calmed shared lane segment; and different types of car diverters on each end.
"The outcomes of this demonstration can help to inform Berkeley’s Bicycle Plan Update underway now, and Alameda CTC’s upcoming San Pablo Ave Parallel Bike Improvements Project in Berkeley, in addition to follow up opportunities."
Bike East Bay asks anyone who wants to participate and provide feedback or volunteer with setup or the event itself, to fill out a quick survey.
This event is part of Bike East Bay’s Green Mobility Ambassadors project in West Berkeley, made possible with generous funding from Bayer’s West Berkeley Community Resiliency Fund and from the PeopleForBikes Industry Community Grants Program.
