Police investigate gunfire near UC Berkeley stadium

Authorities in Berkeley are investigating gunfire near Cal's Memorial Stadium in late March.
No one was hurt and there was no property damage, but officers did find evidence of gunfire in the roadway, Berkeley police said this week.
Officers from BPD and the University of California Police Department responded March 21 to possible gunfire on Canyon Road, across from the stadium, at about 9:25 p.m., police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.

The shooter was gone when police arrived but officers spoke with witnesses and reviewed area surveillance cameras for evidence.

This week, BPD said its homicide unit is handling the case. The investigation is ongoing.
Berkeley shootings down significantly this year
Berkeley has now had five shootings this year, including one on the freeway. None resulted in injuries.
In late January, a man did show up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound, but BPD determined he had been shot in Oakland.
There had been 13 shootings as of this time last year, including six that resulted in injuries.
