Berkeley police investigate transphobic hate crime
BPD said the department is working to identify the assailant and following up on investigative leads.

Berkeley police are looking for a man who threatened a non-binary person Friday and threw a glass bottle at their head, authorities report.
The incident took place outside AxeVentures Berkeley, an axe-throwing business at 2566 Telegraph Ave., north of Parker Street, according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.
Police said the victim and a friend were standing outside AxeVentures at about 8:30 p.m. when a stranger, unprovoked, began calling them derogatory terms related to sexual orientation, Berkeley police said.
The assailant also threatened to kill the victims and threw a glass bottle at them, aiming for one of their heads, BPD said.
The victim, who declined medical transport, was examined at the scene by the Berkeley Fire Department.
The culprit fled on foot before police arrived, authorities said.
Officers did respond quickly, according to radio traffic, speaking to witnesses and canvassing the area for surveillance footage.
BPD said the department is now following up on investigative leads.
