TBS Today, March 20

Two stories for you today: an overnight burglary at Lululemon and our report on a recent car crash in North Berkeley in which one driver reportedly pushed another into a building.

We had a lot of inquiries about that one (not to mention some dramatic photos from readers) so we took a closer look.

One person described the intersection of Virginia at MLK as “among the sketchiest” single-lane bike boulevard crossings in Berkeley.
Burglars hit Berkeley Lululemon on Fourth Street overnight
There had been at least 48 commercial burglaries in Berkeley as of March 12, a steep drop from the same period last year.

What a "quiet" week looks like from the inside

We haven't posted too much this week for a number of reasons. But that doesn't mean there isn't a lot happening behind the scenes.

We've been working on City Hall reporting about the annual crime report as well as a decision by the City Council to shift its approach to fixed surveillance cameras.

We have multiple updates coming soon on criminal cases and traffic incidents, including a recent CHP chase through Berkeley; not to mention ongoing reporting on safety at Berkeley High; and coverage on some interesting changes that may be coming for some of the county's most serious cases under the new DA.

It's also just a very busy time of year administratively, between journalism "award season" applications, taxes, struggling through Berkeley's business license process, creating a reader survey (you'll be hearing more soon!), making it easier for community members to get on our calendar, and improving our systems to bring more freelance contributors on board.

We've also been thinking about new ways to grow and continue to ensure our longterm viability and sustainability. We have been so fortunate thanks to reader support.

As a "solopreneur," every day is a juggle and, generally speaking, we prioritize writing and publishing throughout the week. This one has been an exception due to everything else on the plate.

And that includes our continuing advocacy efforts to ensure our stories reaches you on various platforms — particularly as formerly "reliable" systems like Facebook and Twitter have broken many of our posts and pages for many people (with no support options anywhere to be found).

Must be something in the water, along with everything else happening in the world!

(That's one of the top reasons that building this newsletter continues to be one of our key priorities — as other channels continue to become increasingly unreliable.)
