A man was wounded Tuesday in a shooting on Highway 24 that closed eastbound lanes for hours not far from the Berkeley border with Oakland.

The eastbound lanes were blocked until approximately 2:30 p.m. to allow for the investigation, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Limited details about the shooting have been available. No arrests have been reported.

But a CHP spokesman told The Scanner that officers were dispatched just after noon to a possible freeway shooting on eastbound Highway 24 near Broadway in Oakland.

"Officers were advised that a small white sedan had been struck by gunfire and that one person appeared to have been struck," the CHP said.

When officers arrived, the victim was already gone.

Authorities later determined he had gotten to the hospital on his own and been treated for "non-life-threatening injuries to the legs."

The CHP closed all lanes of eastbound SR-24 at Claremont Avenue "to allow investigators to search for evidence."

Officers also closed the I-580 transition to eastbound Highway 24 "to keep traffic out of the area," the CHP said.

CHP Oakland has reported no other injury shootings this year.

But, in mid-January, the agency arrested a man in connection with a road rage incident on I-880, near Broadway, involving the firing of a BB gun.

More recently, in mid-February, CHP Oakland arrested a man on suspicion of having brandished a pellet gun designed to resemble an AR-15-style rifle on I-80 east of Powell Street.
