TBS Today, Feb. 13

We're still publishing on a limited basis due to travel (back next week in full force!) but have two stories for you today, one an update on UC Berkeley's recent sex crime case; the other, a rather unusual commercial burglary.

Man charged in UC Berkeley sex crime case
Police said Andrew McNear pulled a woman off her bike and threatened her while she was riding near University Village in Albany.
Woman rappelled into North Face for burglary, police say
BPD says Brezjana Wilson and two accomplices stole merchandise valued at $20,000 — but left another $30,000 in goods and a safe behind.

In case you missed it

Remembering Elise Lusk: ‘Always striving to get better’
The Berkeley native was a vivacious and caring woman who brought others together. She was also a cancer survivor and a lifelong swimmer.

In other news

Remembering Robert Shadric, a longtime Berkeley presence
To some, he was Robert. To others, he was Jamal. He often slept outside the Cheeseboard and could also be found on Euclid Avenue.

We have an update from the organizer about the memorial for Robert Shadric.

Alex Elias says attendees will meet Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Campus Store at 10:30 a.m. (corner of Euclid and Ridge).

"Anyone who wants to share a story or say a prayer for Jameel is welcome to do so there. Then we will light some candles and walk down to the Cheese Board together, where we will stop again for a bit, and people will have another opportunity to speak."

"We will then go to All Souls Parish chapel at 2220 Cedar Street (corner of Cedar and Spruce) for a service, which we are expecting to start around noon or 12:30 (but it's flexible depending on how long we take getting over there)."

"We will then have a relatively short memorial service at the chapel. We would love to have potluck-style food after the service, so it would be great to bring some food but don't feel like you have to. People who prepare food can drop it off starting at 10:00am at the All Souls Chapel, but keep in mind that it will not be refrigerated for a few hours until we eat it."

Alex says anyone knew Shadric particularly well and "feels called to give a more in-depth eulogy as part of the service, please contact me and we can arrange that."
