A man was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive on a busy sidewalk in downtown Berkeley on Tuesday evening, authorities report.

Scanner readers asked for information after seeing crime scene tape and multiple Berkeley police officers outside Cholita Linda at 2000 Kala Bagai Way (at University Avenue).

A downtown Berkeley ambassador had become concerned after seeing the man on the sidewalk at 5:40 p.m., authorities said.

The ambassador noticed that the man was in the same position he had been in around 1 p.m. Tuesday and had not moved, police said.

The Berkeley Fire Department ultimately determined that the man was non-responsive and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The circumstances did not appear suspicious, authorities said.

The Alameda County coroner's office responded to take custody of the body and subsequently identified the man as 44-year-old Andrew Nathan Patrick of Grass Valley, Nevada.

No other information was immediately available.

Update, Jan. 29: On Wednesday, in response to an inquiry from TBS, the coroner's office said Andrew Nathan Patrick, 44, was actually from Nevada County in Grass Valley, California.
