Thieves steal $25,000 in gear from Berkeley North Face
Six or more people pulled up to the store in two cars and then ran out with $25,000 in stolen merchandise, according to preliminary reports.
Police are investigating an apparent organized retail theft at the Berkeley North Face Outlet on Monday afternoon.
The store reported six or more people who pulled up to the store in two cars and then ran out with $25,000 in stolen merchandise around 3:15 p.m.
The drivers fled westbound on Gilman Street toward the freeway and were able to get away, authorities said.
The case remains under investigation.
Toward the end of 2024, thieves repeatedly hammered the Berkeley North Face Outlet, taking items valued at about $46,000 from mid-November to mid-December.
Commercial burglaries often spike around the holidays and northwest Berkeley has been a popular target for thieves.
Overall, however, commercial burglaries fell about 30% in Berkeley last year compared to 2023's spike.
There were about 400 commercial burglaries in Berkeley in 2024 compared to about 570 over the same period last year, according to preliminary BPD data.
BPD's official 2024 crime report is expected to be published in March.
