2 Berkeley shooting reports: Man wounded; gunfire on I-80
Authorities said they do not currently believe the incidents are linked.
Police in Berkeley are investigating two seemingly unrelated shootings Friday night: one, gunfire on the freeway, the other, the case of a man who showed up wounded at a local hospital.
Few details were available as of publication time but authorities did confirm they do not currently believe the incidents are linked.
The first call to come in, shortly after 8 p.m., involved a man, reportedly in his 40s, who was dropped off at Alta Bates Hospital in the Elmwood neighborhood with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The Berkeley Fire Department transported him "Code 3," with lights and sirens, to Highland Hospital for treatment.
According to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner, the man refused to cooperate with Berkeley police, who are continuing to follow up on leads.
As officers were working to collect evidence in that case, BPD got a call about gunfire on the freeway near Ashby Avenue in West Berkeley just before 8:30 p.m.
A witness told police she'd seen someone firing a gun "randomly" in the air out of their car window, according to radio traffic.

Berkeley police searched for evidence of gunfire near the Ashby off-ramp but did not immediately find anything.
The California Highway Patrol also responded to search for evidence and closed part of the freeway or Ashby off-ramp for a period of time to conduct the investigation.
The Scanner has asked the CHP for an update but had not heard back as of publication time.
