A motorcycle rider was hurt Wednesday night after losing control and crashing into a pole on Arlington Avenue in the Berkeley Hills, authorities report.

The crash took place at about 10:30 p.m., Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.

A reader asked TBS for details after seeing police and an ambulance at the scene.

The crash happened in the area of Arlington and Mendocino avenues.

Police said the rider lost control, then scraped along the center divide until he flew off the bike and hit the pole, according to the preliminary investigation.

The motorcycle rider was taken to Highland Hospital, the regional trauma center, with what appeared to be a serious head injury, authorities said.

As of publication time, he was reported to be in stable condition. No other details about him were immediately available.

Police diverted traffic off of Arlington at Mendocino while they took measurements and photographs for the investigation.

The crash comes about a day after a driver fell asleep at the wheel in central Berkeley and crashed into a utility pole, knocking out power to thousands of residents.
