Berkeley police detectives identified 34-year-old Arturo Avalos as a suspect and got a warrant for his arrest.
Berkeley police have arrested an Oakland man in connection with a recent shooting near Henry Street and Berkeley Way.
Police say Arturo Avalos, 34, was wounded in the shooting, which was described by at least one community member as a gunfight, but say he also fired a weapon himself.
On Oct. 24, Berkeley police got multiple calls about gunfire on Berkeley Way just after 2:30 p.m.
That day, a community member told The Scanner he saw two men exchange gunfire on the block at close range.
One of the men later turned up at Highland Hospital in Oakland, the regional trauma center.
Berkeley police detectives identified Avalos as a suspect and got a warrant for his arrest, BPD said.
On Nov. 21, members of BPD's Special Response Team — what other agencies call SWAT — served the warrant outside a home in Oakland.

That morning, they arrested Avalos in connection with the shooting — on suspicion of assault on a person with a firearm, shooting a gun in a negligent manner and shooting at an inhabited dwelling, along with other weapon-related offenses, police said.
BPD said the U.S. Marshals Service and Oakland Police Department helped in the operation.
According to Alameda County jail records, Avalos is not in local custody.
On Monday, the Alameda County online court filing system appeared to be offline, so no information was immediately available about charges that may have been filed since his arrest.
As of this week, Berkeley has had 24 shootings this year leaving three dead and seven wounded, according to available records.
There had been 34 shootings at this time last year with eight people wounded.
