A woman was killed Friday morning in northwest Berkeley when an Amtrak train hit her, authorities said.

Here's what we know.

Amtrak said the woman was trespassing on the tracks when the collision happened at about 10 a.m.

Other recent notes

Earlier this week, we had a few inquiries about a fatality at Willard Park.

BPD told us it did not appear suspicious. A community member let us know the man who died was a "frequent resident" of the park.

We checked with the coroner's office Friday, but they said the man's name is not yet available pending family notification.

We'll keep checking.

In case we haven't mentioned it recently, Scanner readers are our secret weapon.

TBS is still a one-woman shop (with a growing corps of regular contributors) — but part of the reason we can cover so much ground is because so many community members turn to us to share tips, insights and questions.

We're proud to be your top source for local public safety news.

Scanner reader Richard Boubelik shared a photo this week of the CVS that had its door rammed in by burglars.

"I just walked past the CVS … on my evening walk," he said. "As you can see they’ve already got plywood up for the repair."

If you need a palate cleanser after all that, check out some local events coming up at the Berkeley Public Library, Oakland Public Library and UC Berkeley.

Visit Berkeley also has an event calendar as does the Downtown Berkeley Association and the folks behind Fourth Street.
