CHP search with helicopter underway in Berkeley
One reader said a helicopter was circling for at least 20 minutes around San Pablo Avenue in the area of Delaware Street and University Avenue.
A CHP search is underway in Berkeley on Friday night for the driver of a reportedly stolen car.
The CHP confirmed that its helicopter was in the area and a search was underway.
The driver reportedly jumped out of the car and was hiding from police in an effort to evade capture.
One reader said a helicopter was circling overhead for at least 20 minutes, beginning around 9 p.m., in the area of San Pablo Avenue near Delaware Street and University Avenue.
Another saw it from Sixth Street and University.
One resident said she saw police activity on the ground in the area of Hearst Avenue and Eighth Street as a helicopter circled overhead with its searchlight on.
The CHP said the incident is ongoing.
Update, 10:10 p.m. The CHP said a K9 unit is assisting in the search, which has focused on a backyard. Brentwood police may also be on scene.
