TBS Today: BHS student pistol-whipped, Flock arrest update
A Berkeley High student was pistol-whipped on his way to football practice this week. Police said the incident was brazen and unusual for Berkeley.
Here's what we know.
We have asked Berkeley Unified and Berkeley High for comments on this incident. We're told they did not send any community alert about what happened. We're trying to find out way.
We also added a lot of details to Wednesday's police chase story. Don't miss the update.
We also wanted to remind you about this week's Red Flag Warning, in effect tonight in the Berkeley Hills starting at 11 p.m.
The Berkeley Fire Department told us they have added staff tonight to patrol for any issues: "We have a Wildland Type Apparatus that is fully staffed and we will patrol areas through the night and morning. In addition, there is also a volunteer group that will patrol areas as well during the same time frame."
In case you missed it
If you haven't already, we hope you'll read our in-depth story on the Alyx Herrmann murder trial.
The case has garnered national attention and is helping shine a light on the issue of domestic violence.
Highlights include:
- Closing arguments from the prosecution and defense
- More details about how the DA's office found a 3-hour recording that captured the murder
- Exclusive Scanner photographs from the murder trial
- Previously unreported details about how a K-9 officer used his search-and-rescue training to find Alyx's body in Tilden park — even without his dog's help
We are still working to learn more about this case and understand its complex personalities and dynamics. We will attend the sentencing next month.
We also checked with the coroner's office to see if they could share the name of the man who died at Codornices Park earlier this week. They said it's not available yet.
Sadly, we've been told this may have been a suicide — but are still trying to learn more.
