TBS Today, Oct. 16

After a day of deliberations, jurors brought back a guilty verdict in what prosecutors say was the domestic violence murder of Alyx Herrmann at her Capitola home in December.

Authorities say Theobald Lengyel, a one-time member of the rock band Mr. Bungle, strangled Herrmann to death on Dec. 4 after restraining her for nearly an hour and asking her repeatedly if she was ready to die.

"I'm trying to find some reason why he would do that. To someone he loved, supposedly," Herrmann's brother, Eric, told us after the verdict came in. "I have no answer for that."

Our latest deep dive describes the key arguments in the case and highlights critical discoveries by authorities, including how a K-9 officer used his training to find Herrmann's body in Tilden park — even without his dog's help.
