BPD's Fatal Accident Investigation Team, which handles serious crashes as well as fatal ones, was dispatched to the scene.
The pedestrian was reportedly bleeding from the head when Berkeley police found him down on the street, according to emergency radio dispatches reviewed by The Scanner.
There were also indications of a possible leg fracture. He was taken to Highland Hospital.
The driver in the crash was also taken to the hospital, according to unconfirmed radio traffic.
Berkeley police put out a Nixle notice about an hour after the collision urging people to avoid southbound Adeline between Oregon Street and Ashby Avenue and use alternate routes.
In the Nixle, police said roadways would be closed "for an undetermined amount of time" so officers could investigate the traffic collision.
