Marin Circle crash in Berkeley sends 2 to Highland Hospital
BFD had to extricate an older man from the vehicle that lost control, authorities said.
The Berkeley Fire Department took two drivers to Highland Hospital on Saturday after a collision at Marin Circle in the Berkeley Hills, authorities report.
The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. when one driver appeared to have lost control coming down the hill on Marin Avenue, Acting BFD Battalion Chief DeJuan Turner said.
The driver went through Marin Circle, missing the fountain and ending up on its side, BFD said, according to preliminary information.
Details were limited, but the driver is believed to have struck another vehicle during the crash.
The Berkeley Fire Department had to extricate an older man from the vehicle that lost control, Turner said.
After stabilizing that vehicle, they were able to carry the driver out through one of his car doors.
BFD rushed the man "Code 3," with lights and sirens, to Highland Hospital.
The other driver was also taken to Highland Hospital, the regional trauma center.
BPD put out a Nixle alert just before 1:25 p.m. asking people to "avoid the area" of Marin Circle "until further notice."
BPD said it was actively investigating the collision and had closed several roadways as a result.

Update, 2:25 p.m. BPD said details remain limited due to the ongoing investigation but that a 73-year-old driver is believed to have run into a 41-year-old driver as well as the bollards in the circle during the crash. Both drivers had complaints of pain. No further details were immediately available.
Update, 2:35 p.m. Scanner readers report that roadways in the area remain closed due to the investigation.
