Woman charged with organized retail theft from Sephora
Tyerra Townsend said she committed two thefts at Sephora and "sold the stolen merchandise at the Oakland Coliseum market," police wrote.
A young woman from Pittsburg has been charged with stealing more than $15,000 in products from the Fourth Street Sephora shop in Berkeley this year, court papers show.
On Friday, Tyerra Townsend, 22, was charged with two counts of organized retail theft and two counts of grand theft from the Berkeley Sephora store in relation to incidents in March and July of this year.
Authorities said they also linked Townsend to a theft of more than $10,000 in goods from the Ulta Beauty shop in Brentood, according to charging papers.
According to court papers, Townsend and two other people went into the Berkeley Sephora store at 1785 Fourth St. on March 6 and stole more than $8,000 in cosmetics.
The burglary was captured on Sephora's high-definition security cameras, authorities said.
The Ulta burglary also happened in March, police wrote in charging papers.
On July 15, BPD said Townsend and three other people went into the Berkeley Sephora and took nearly $7,000 in cosmetics, police wrote.
BPD arrested Townsend last week, according to charging papers.
In a statement to police, Townsend "admitted that she … committed both thefts at Sephora and that she sold the stolen merchandise at the Oakland Coliseum market," police wrote.
Judge Elena Condes released Townsend on her own recognizance on Monday and ordered her to stay away from the Berkeley Sephora as well as any other Sephora shops in Alameda County, according to court papers.
Townsend is scheduled to return to court to enter a plea Aug. 20.
