Oakland man, 28, struck and killed by train in Berkeley

A man who was trespassing on the railroad tracks in Berkeley was killed Wednesday night when a train struck him, authorities report.
The man was identified as Malik Cross, 28, of Oakland, the Alameda County coroner's office said Thursday.
The passenger train was traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle when it hit the man at 10:50 p.m., Amtrak said.
No injuries were reported to the train passengers or crew. The train was stopped for 2.5 hours during the investigation.
"Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident," an agency spokesperson said.
The Federal Railroad Administration has identified trespassing along railroad rights-of-way as the leading cause of rail-related deaths in America.
"These incidents can affect everyone involved — those who are injured or die and their families, our train crews and our passengers," Amtrak said. "They also serve as critical reminders about the importance of obeying the law and of exercising extreme caution around railroad tracks and crossings."
