BPD: Police arrest man with gun who tried to hide from cops
The man tried to hide in a downtown parking garage, but police found him as well as his handgun, BPD said.
Berkeley police arrested a man who was spotted downtown holding a gun Tuesday afternoon and attempted to evade capture, authorities report.
The man tried to hide in a downtown parking garage, but police found him as well as the handgun he had tried to ditch under a parked car, Berkeley police said.
Shortly before 3 p.m., a witness called police after seeing a man who appeared to be in his 20s who was shoving a gun into his pocket near Harold Way and Allston Way, BPD said.
When an officer tried to stop the man near Harold Way and Kittredge Street, he ran off and attempted to hide in the Center Street Garage, authorities said.

Berkeley police officers set up a perimeter and watched for any signs of the suspect in the garage, police said.
A short time later, police saw him hiding between cars on the first floor of the garage, according to BPD.
Police arrested the man and also found the handgun he had hidden under a car, authorities said.
The man's name was not immediately available pending the booking process.
