UC Berkeley student, 19, robbed at gunpoint near campus
Police said two men, 20-30 years old, approached the student and took her bag, which contained her computer and other items.
A 19-year-old UC Berkeley student was robbed at gunpoint a few blocks from campus on Wednesday shortly after midnight, authorities report.
The robbery took place just before 12:20 a.m. at College Avenue and Haste Street in the Southside neighborhood.
Berkeley police said two men, who appeared to be 20-30 years old, approached the student and took her bag, which contained her computer and other items.
The men fled in a white sedan, possibly an older-model Infinity, southbound on College Avenue.
An automated license plate reader in Piedmont picked up a similar vehicle a short time later, but police were unable to locate the culprits.
Robberies in Berkeley are down this year, year to date, and appear to be lower than at any time in recent years, according to preliminary BPD data on The Transparency Hub.
There have been nearly 80 robberies, including carjackings and home-invasion robberies, in Berkeley this year.
