The case of a Berkeley woman who is accused of murdering her mother last month has been suspended for a mental health assessment. We have the exclusive.

Also published today: Two felons are facing new gun possession charges after being stopped by police near UC Berkeley earlier this month, according to court papers.

During a car search, a UCPD officer found an unserialized Glock-style handgun “protruding out from a hidden compartment,” police wrote.

In other news

Berkeley police also responded today to a crash involving a driver and a pedestrian at Hearst Avenue and Oxford Street just after 4:20 p.m.

It sounded like the pedestrian was taken to the hospital. We've asked BPD for information.

On Tuesday, the campaign seeking to remove DA Pamela Price is holding a press conference at 1 p.m. and plans to address the Alameda County Board of Supervisors regarding the recall election. We plan to be there.

When the election will happen and how a new DA might be chosen remain open questions.

Price announced her own press conference set for 2 p.m. today regarding a "major lawsuit against car insurance companies," but subsequently canceled it without explanation.
