Berkeley police are investigating a collision on Shattuck Avenue that sent a cyclist to the hospital on Friday afternoon.

The collision happened at Shattuck and Vine Street shortly before noon, Berkeley police said.

The cyclist was taken "Code 2" (following normal traffic rules) to Highland Hospital for assessment.

After the crash, police and firefighters were also working to manage an aggressive pit bull at the scene.

BPD had called animal control to take in and assess the animal, police said.

A passer-by told The Scanner that it appeared that the cyclist may have been exiting the driveway near Cafenated Coffee Company, at 2085 Vine St., when a driver in a green Subaru, who was westbound on Vine, hit the cyclist and dog.

Police had not confirmed those details as of publication time.

The Scanner will share additional information when it becomes available.
