UC Berkeley police report armed robbery near Greek Theatre
Police also called BFD for a male battery victim who was reportedly struck in the ribs with a baseball bat in the Foothill lot.
UC Berkeley police are investigating the armed robbery and possible battery of a student near the Greek Theatre on Wednesday night.
Limited details were available, but the University of California Police Department put out an alert about the robbery, which took place just after 8:30 p.m. in the Foothill parking lot off Cyclotron Road east of the Greek Theatre.
UCPD urged people to "avoid the area" of the parking lot "until further notice."
"The suspects are still at large and police are on scene," UCPD wrote in the 9 p.m. alert.
UCPD said the robbers had been described as males who were 5 feet tall.
One wore a white shirt with a gray shirt on top and the other had a beige top.
"Suspects are possibly carrying a handgun and baseball bat," UCPD advised.
UCPD also called the Berkeley Fire Department to assess a male battery victim who had been struck in the ribs with a baseball bat during the robbery.
After publication, UCPD confirmed that the victim was a UC Berkeley student.
The Scanner has asked for more details.
It was unclear whether the robbery had any connection to the Greek Theatre, which had a sold-out Willie Nelson concert scheduled Wednesday night.
As of last week, there had been about 65 other robberies reported in the blocks surrounding UC Berkeley in the past six months, along with six robberies on campus, according to data from BPD and UCPD.
