Berkeley City Council District 7 update
As we reported last night, Cecilia Lunaparra is ahead in the District 7 City Council race, with 117 votes (60%) to James Chang's 77 votes (40%).
Today, Alameda County Registrar of Voters Tim Dupuis told us that the next update is planned for Thursday night.
Dupuis said a total of 70 ballots were cast in person on Election Day. Another 127 ballots that had been mailed in have been counted.
Ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by next Tuesday will be counted.
Following the update Thursday night, further results may not be announced until next week's ballots are counted, he said.
"With such a small turnout, we may wait to post once we have the remaining Vote by mails next week," Dupuis said.
- District 7 has about 2,800 registered voters, according to election officials. About 700 of them cast ballots in the 2022 election.
- Berkeley City Council districts each average 15,500 residents (and most average closer to 11,000 registered voters).
