Berkeley City Council District 7 election results as they happen
Election results continue to come in for the District 7 Berkeley City Council seat vacated by Rigel Robinson in January.
As predicted, turnout appears to have been astoundingly low.
As of Thursday afternoon, Cecilia Lunaparra has 284 votes (60%) to James Chang's 191 votes (40%). The margin is largely unchanged from election night.
Historically this is an extremely low-turnout district.
About 700 ballots were cast during the regular election in 2022.
It was an uncontested race in 2022, but so was downtown's District 4, where more than 3,000 ballots were cast.
District 7 has about 2,800 registered voters, according to election officials.
Berkeley City Council districts each average 15,500 residents.
The next update may not come from the county until next week.
ROV: Berkeley District 7 election update set for Thursday
Update, April 17: Alameda County Registrar of Voters Tim Dupuis told TBS that the next update about District 7 ballots is planned for Thursday night.
Dupuis said a total of 70 ballots were cast in person on Election Day. Another 127 ballots were mailed in.
Ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by next Tuesday will be counted.
Following the Thursday night update, further results may not be announced until next week's ballots are counted, he said.
"With such a small turnout, we may wait to post once we have the remaining Vote by mails next week," Dupuis said.
