Pamela Price recall campaign says there will be an election
The timing of the recall election and how a potential replacement DA might be selected remain open questions.
The campaign seeking to oust embattled Alameda County DA Pamela Price says it submitted enough signatures to prompt a recall election.
The recall campaign, dubbed Save Alameda for Everyone (SAFE), announced the news on X shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.
"After months of tireless grassroots organizing and community outreach, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters confirmed today that SAFE has successfully gathered enough signatures to trigger a recall election," the recall campaign said.

The timing of the Price recall election and how a potential replacement DA might be selected remain open questions.
Recall campaign organizer Brenda Grisham called Monday's announcement a "historic moment."
"The resounding support for this recall petition sends a clear message that the people of Alameda County demand accountability and ethical leadership from their elected officials," she said in a prepared statement.
Price recall campaign: Officials "examined each signature"
In its own announcement Monday, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters said it had "examined each signature as legally required and found the number of valid signatures to be sufficient to call for a recall election. The proponents of the recall have been notified."
The recall campaign needed to submit 73,195 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot, the ROV said.
Election officials said they tallied 74,757 valid signatures, with another 48,617 that were disqualified.
(No details were provided in Monday's statement as to possible reasons for disqualification.)
The ROV will now "certify the results of the examination of the petition" at an Alameda County Board of Supervisors meeting April 30, the office said.
The Price campaign, which calls itself "Protect the Win," did not respond to a request for comment Monday.
The Price campaign generally posts its statements on social media and had not done so as of publication time.
Alameda County DA Pamela Price was elected in November 2022 by 53% of the vote.
By July 2023, she was facing a recall by critics who questioned her management of the office, her treatment of victim families and her leniency on cases.
Price supporters say she was elected to overhaul the office and correct historic disparties in the criminal justice system, and should be given more time to carry out that mandate.
