Just one quick update for you, about a daytime non-injury shooting Thursday.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Berkeley police responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 900 block of Channing Way (between Eighth and Ninth streets).
Police determined that the shooter, who fled before officers arrived, had fired a round into a house on the block.
No one was hurt but the shooting left property damage.
As of April 12, Berkeley has had 14 shootings in 2024 with six people wounded.
Last year, there had been six shootings. One man had been hurt.
On Friday, Councilman Terry Taplin wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that BPD's Community Service Bureau would "initiate a Problem Oriented Policing operation utilizing the Scan Analysis Respond & Assess (SARA) model to mitigate impacts."
Taplin said he's available by email if neighbors need support.
