The Alameda County DA's office has now charged 23-year-old Gabriella Riemer with the murder of her mother, Heather Riemer.
Heather worked in mental health and substance support services. She was 60 years old and had overcome past trauma to devote her life to helping others, according to online profiles.
Here's what we've learned so far.
Speaking of the Riemer case, several of you caught our misspelling of the last name yesterday.
For context, the name appears as "Reimer" in several official records, but we were able to confirm that's incorrect. We've fixed our original story and won't get it wrong again.
Don't hesitate to contact The Scanner if you have a question about our reporting. We always want to get it right and fix it when we mess up.
We're sad to share the news that Alameda County Superior Court Judge James Cramer has died. East Bay Times reporter Nate Gartrell has the story.
No cause of death has been released.
Our condolences go out to Judge Cramer's family.
