A man was arrested Monday night after striking an associate in the face with a metal scooter, likely causing a permanent scar, Berkeley police said.
The incident took place outside 7-Eleven, at 1501 University Ave., at about 7:30 p.m.
Police said the argument initially broke out between the men when one called the other a name.
In response, he struck the first man in the face with the scooter, leaving a serious cut on the bridge of his nose and eyebrow, police said.
The assailant left the scene but Berkeley police officers found him about a block away and took him into custody.

The wounded man was taken to Alta Bates Hospital for treatment, police said.
