The incident happened at the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at 1839 Woolsey St. in South Berkeley on Jan. 7, according to charging documents.
The suspect was ultimately identified as 28-year-old Dana Carter Jr. of San Francisco, BPD said.
Carter fled the church but Berkeley police sought a felony warrant for his arrest, BPD wrote.
On Feb. 2, he was stopped on suspicion of fare evasion at a downtown San Francisco BART station and officers there found the Berkeley warrant for his arrest, according to BART Police.

When detectives interviewed him, BPD wrote, Carter said he did not know the woman but followed her into the bathroom because he was attracted to her and felt "sexual energy" between them.
On Feb. 4, the Alameda County district attorney's office charged Carter with false imprisonment and indecent exposure, which are both listed as misdemeanors.
He was released on his own recognizance two days later.
Carter is set to return to court March 19 for a pretrial hearing, according to court records.
