Police are investigating the attempted sexual assault of a 20-year-old UC Berkeley student who was walking alone Monday night near campus, authorities report.
The incident happened in the 2600 block of Parker Street, near Benvenue Avenue, in the Southside neighborhood near Cal, Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.
A caller dialed 911 at exactly 8 p.m. after hearing a woman screaming, according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.

The student struggled and got away, but the assailant managed to grab her again before she escaped for good.
The man fled the scene and police said they are still trying to determine his identity.
After the incident, Berkeley police officers responded to the area to canvas for witnesses and surveillance footage.
The investigation is ongoing, Berkeley police said.
