Berkeley smoke shop robbed at gunpoint — again
Robberies in Berkeley are up 31% compared to last year, with more than 358 robberies so far in 2023, according to BPD data.
A Berkeley smoke shop that was robbed at gunpoint last month was robbed again at gunpoint Monday night, authorities report.
Berkeley police say The One smoke shop, at 1019 University Ave., was robbed just before 10:50 p.m. by two males who appeared to be in their late teens.
Both had handguns and took cash from The One before leaving.
No further information about the robbery was immediately available but police said the investigation is ongoing.
Late-night Berkeley businesses hit hard by armed robberies
Berkeley businesses that stay open late have been hit hard by armed robberies in recent weeks.
On Oct. 18, men with a gun robbed The One as well as 7-Eleven, near Sacramento Street, another late-night business on University Avenue.
A week later, two men with a gun robbed the Smokehouse burger shop on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley.
And the next week, on Halloween night, Berkeley police officers responded to back-to-back commercial robberies, both of which involved guns.
That night, the robberies took place at Marina Liquors, at 1265 University Ave. (near Chestnut Street), and Bob's Liquors & Deli at 2842 Sacramento St. (at Oregon Street), about 1.5 miles away.
