A 7-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and other injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Berkeley on Halloween night, authorities report.

The incident happened in the 1200 block of Derby Street, near Mabel Street, just before 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, Berkeley police said.

Authorities said the boy was trick-or-treating with his parents when he ran out between two parked cars and was struck by a driver who kept going.

The motorist fled westbound on Derby Street, BPD said.

The vehicle was described as possibly a dark sedan, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Berkeley police have asked anyone with information about the crash to call BPD's Traffic Unit at 510-981-5980.
