Berkeley jewelry shop in the Elmwood robbed at gunpoint

Three men with a gun robbed a Berkeley jewelry shop in the Elmwood neighborhood late Wednesday afternoon, authorities report.
The men pistol-whipped a store employee, smashed display cases and made off with the jewelry, Berkeley police said.
Police began getting calls about the robbery at 14 Karats jewelry shop at 2910 College Ave. (south of Russell Street) at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Calls came in from the shop and others in the area, police said.
Officers responded to the store but the men were able to escape in a getaway car.
The employee was treated at the scene, the Berkeley Police Department said.
