UPDATE: Berkeley police bomb squad says package 'proves OK'

Update, 12:45 p.m. The Berkeley Police Department says the suspicious package investigation at Webster and Regent streets "is now over." The BPD bomb squad "handled the investigation and it proves ok. All lanes are now open to vehicles and pedestrians."
Original story: The Berkeley Police Department has asked community members near Webster and Regent streets in the Elmwood neighborhood to shelter in place as authorities investigate a suspicious package.
Berkeley police sent a Nixle alert about the investigation at 11:35 a.m.
Authorities said they have closed the area to vehicles and pedestrians.
The Berkeley Police Department bomb squad is on its way to assist in the investigation, according to the Nixle alert.
