Woman shoots man during downtown Berkeley bar fight
When police arrived, they did not know anyone had been shot: The victim had already left, and the other patrons had scattered.
A man in his 20s was treated at a local hospital over the weekend after a woman shot him during a brawl at a downtown Berkeley bar, authorities report.
No arrests have been made, but Berkeley police say the fight broke out at Barbarian Grub & Ale on Sept. 18 shortly before 12:20 a.m.
Police responded to the bar, at 2012 Shattuck Ave. (near University Avenue), on a report of at least 12 people fighting inside. Police said a woman fired a gun during the fracas, wounding a man inside the bar.
When officers arrived, however, they did not know anyone had been hurt: The victim had already left, and the other patrons had scattered.
Officers found evidence of gunfire inside the bar and launched an investigation to determine what had happened.
Later that morning, police told The Scanner, BPD learned that a Richmond man in his 20s who had been struck by a bullet had shown up at a local hospital seeking treatment.
The man is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
The woman who shot the gun was described as Asian or Pacific Islander. She wore a black tank top and light-colored jeans, according to emergency dispatches reviewed by The Berkeley Scanner.
BPD has not said what sparked the bar fight. The investigation is ongoing.
Berkeley has had about 40 shootings in 2022, leaving two people dead and 12 wounded.
